Wordhoard Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 1, 2026
Last updated: September 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Wordhoard - Vocabulary Flashcards browser extension ("Wordhoard") handles information.

Summary

Wordhoard processes only the information needed to create and manage vocabulary flashcards. Wordhoard does not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or developer-operated servers. The developer does not receive or have access to users' flashcards or browsing data.

Information Wordhoard Handles

Wordhoard handles the following information when a user chooses to create a flashcard:

Wordhoard does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, account credentials, financial information, health information, precise location, personal communications, or general browsing activity.

How Information Is Used

This information is used only to:

Wordhoard does not use information for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to its vocabulary-flashcard functionality.

Storage and Retention

Flashcards, including source-page URLs, are stored locally in the browser using IndexedDB. Duplicate-word markers are stored using the Chrome Storage API and may be synchronized between the user's browsers when browser synchronization is enabled.

When several definitions are available, Wordhoard temporarily stores them in local extension storage while the user chooses one. This temporary entry is normally removed as soon as the selection window loads. If that process is interrupted, it may remain in local extension storage until the browser clears the extension's data or the extension is uninstalled.

A saved flashcard and its duplicate-word marker remain until the user deletes the flashcard or clears or removes the extension's data. Synchronized information is also subject to the browser provider's synchronization and retention controls.

Third-Party Services

Wordhoard sends the requested word to the Wordnik API over HTTPS to obtain definitions, pronunciations, and audio metadata. When the user plays a pronunciation, the browser requests the audio from Wordnik's audio service. Wordhoard does not send the source-page URL to Wordnik.

Wordnik may receive standard network information, such as an IP address and request metadata, as part of providing its service. Wordnik handles that information according to its own policies. See Wordnik's Privacy Policy.

If browser synchronization is enabled, the browser provider may process duplicate-word markers as part of its synchronization service under the provider's privacy policy.

Wordhoard does not sell user information. It does not share information with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Permissions

Wordhoard uses these browser permissions:

Security

Information sent to Wordnik is transmitted over HTTPS. Wordhoard contains its executable code within the extension package and does not load remote executable code. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but Wordhoard limits access and data handling to what is necessary for its stated purpose.

User Choices and Data Deletion

Users can delete individual flashcards from the Wordhoard popup. Users can remove all locally stored Wordhoard data by clearing the extension's storage or uninstalling the extension. Browser-synchronized information may also be managed through the user's browser synchronization settings.

Children's Privacy

Wordhoard is not directed specifically to children and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children.

Limited Use

Wordhoard's use of information received from browser APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve Wordhoard's single-purpose vocabulary-flashcard functionality.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated if Wordhoard's functionality or data practices change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this policy and, where required, through the extension's store listing or user interface.
